Thirteen Books from Twelve Weeks in Hell
Publication
Curation
Thirteen design students were burdened with the task of curating a collection of interest, deeply immersing themselves within their concept to develop content, and communicating their findings into a publication concurrently within twelve weeks. Throughout that time, they would each find themselves slowly sinking into their own hell, as they battled the forces of stress, fear and time to complete the seemingly damning task. Even so, the books came out very nice!
The small publication aims to taxonomize the books as they most closely relate to the nine layers of hell. Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greedy, Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery all have a place for each designer and their concept of publication. The book applies tropes of the occult, such as the reverse read paths on each section and introduction page. This pulls from the phrase “As above, so below,” but also evokes a sense of falling and confusion. Likewise, the navigation is expressed through a squiggly line across the entirety of every spread, which creeps down as the reader enters into the next section.
